Kryptronic eCommerce: 2026 EU Flat Customs Duty Support

On July 1, 2026 the European Union (EU) will begin requiring €3.00 flat customs duties on shipments less than €150.00 being imported into the EU from outside the EU. The flat charge is calculated per order line-item being shipped from businesses to consumers. France (€2.00) and Romania (€5.00) currently have different flat customs duty rates. This is an interim change to EU tax handling, and is expect to change in the near future.

As this is an interim change, we are releasing support for the 2026 EU Flat Customs Duty changes as a Custom Surcharge Method which can be added to any Kryptronic eCommerce installation versions 9.0.1 and higher without requiring any software upgrades or updates. Once these changes are finalized, Kryptronic eCommerce will be updated to support any new requirements when they are put in place.

How to Add 2026 EU Flat Customs Duty Support

Clients who are subject to the new 2026 EU Flat Customs Duty changes should follow the instructions below to add support to their store:

Step 1: Download a copy of the new Custom Surcharge Method for 2026 EU Flat Customs Duty Support. Save this file to your computer.

Step 2: Access your Kryptronic eCommerce management interface, login, and browse to Store / Commerce / Custom Surcharge Methods. Choose to add a new Custom Surcharge Method. Name your Custom Surcharge Method appropriately, and copy and paste the content of the file you downloaded in Step 1 into the 'Surcharge Method PHP Content' field. Save your new Custom Surcharge Method.

Step 3: Access Store / Component / Settings / Checkout and select your new Custom Surcharge Method from the listing in the 'Custom Surcharge Method' field. Turn it on by setting 'Custom Surcharge Method Status' to true/1. Click Update to update your settings.

Step 4: If you are using Kryptronic eCommerce version 9.3.0 and higher, access System / Component / Settings / Currency, Weight and Dimensional Settings and make sure you have 'Auto Update Currency Conversion Rates' set to true/1. This will ensure currency conversions done to and from EUR are accurate. If you are using an older version of Kryptronic eCommerce, update your currency conversion rates manually to ensure they're current.

Once finished, your checkout will be set up to charge the new 2026 EU Flat Customs Duty in checkout for any orders for which the charge is applicable. If you have any issues, please contact the Kryptronic Custom Shop for assistance.
